Tall Pines Dietetic Association
History

|
Tall Pines Dietetic Association (TPDA) originally began as the North Harris County Dietetic Study Group. Although geographically a part of the South Texas Dietetic Association (which covered 22 south Texas counties), this group of dietitians lived and worked predominately in north Houston and did not relish the drive into the Texas Medical Center for monthly meetings. They began meeting around 1980 at Houston Northwest Medical Center Hospital and by 1982 had 12 members and began exploring the possibility of forming their own district dietetic association. By February of 1983, the requisite 50 TDA members residing in the north Harris County and surrounding area had indicated a desire to form. A name, Tall Pines Dietetic Association, was chosen and bylaws were written. At the June 1983 TDA Board of Directors meeting, with Jean Webber (the study group president) in attendance, formal district status was granted to TPDA. South Texas Dietetic Association then changed its name to the Houston Area Dietetic Association (HADA).
Our first elected president was Terry Katz, who convened the first TPDA Board of Directors meeting in July 1983. At the present time, we have approximately 60 members. Over the years, several members have received TDA recognition awards (such as the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award), have been elected to state offices, have held state chairmanships, and have hosted or co-hosted the TDA annual convention several times. TPDA members value their close professional and personal friendships and high work ethic standards. |
